Bessemer standoff suspect arraigned on misdemeanor weapons charges

BESSEMER — The man involved in a standoff in the City of Bessemer two weeks ago was arraigned Monday in Gogebic County District Court.

Kurt Choronzy, 38, was charged with one count of weapons – firearms possession under the influence, and one count of weapons – firearms reckless use, both of which are misdemeanors. The first count carries potential penalties of up to 93 days in jail and $100 or $500 in fines, and the second carries up to 90 days in jail and $500 in fines.

Choronzy was arrested by the Gogebic County Sheriff’s Office after a standoff at his residence starting the evening of September 9th and continuing into the early morning.

He is scheduled for pretrial in District Court on October 6th.
