Benishek Statement on County Road 595

From Congressman Dan Benishek’s office in Washington:

Dr. Dan Benishek (MI-01) today released the following statement after the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ) announced they would not be granting a permit for the Country Road 595 Project in Marquette County due to continued objections from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA):

“I am deeply disappointed to learn the MDEQ will not be granting a permit for this job-creating project in the Upper Peninsula.  The EPA’s costly regulations have proved too high a hurdle for this project and it will cost Northern Michiganders many good paying jobs.  The fact is that if we can’t build a privately funded road in Northern Michigan today without Washington regulators suffocating it, where can we build anything?  Moving forward, I plan to keep fighting for this project and investigating what can be done to allow the road to be constructed.”
