Benishek answers questions for Vets

MARQUETTE — Taking care of veterans has always been a top priority for Congressman Dan Benishek. He was back in the Upper Peninsula today doing just that.

Congressman Benishek hosted a Veterans Fair at the National Guard Armory in Marquette. VA reps came from Iron Mountain and even as far as Detroit to answer any questions that veterans had about any of their benefits.

Hosting the fair also gave Benishek the opportunity to mingle with his veteran constituents.

“There’s a lot of frustrations with the veterans because they get the run around. There’s a lot of bureaucracy with the V.A., so streamlining it and making it easier is a major goal. I took care of veterans at the VA for twenty years,” said Benishek. “It’s really a pleasure to be a part of that experience there. In this job, the V.A. Committee in the House, I get the opportunity to do it a little more at the national level, but one veteran at a time here in the district.”

“The benefits available to the veterans are out there and the word is being spread a lot better than it used to be. We still have a long way to go, but we’re getting there. We’re improving the knowledge and getting it out to who it needs to get out to.”

Dr. Benishek hopes to have several more of these Veteran Job Fairs in the district he serves. Sault Ste. Marie, Menominee, and Traverse City are all on his list over the next couple of months.
