Bells for Hospice

If you were outside at noon today, you might have heard a chorus of vocals and church bells.

Today marks the start of National Hospice and Palliative Care Month.

Members of hospice groups, local churches and other community members gathered at the Marquette Commons to ring bells in honor of all those who have died in hospice care.

Dr. Jeff Nyquist of U.P. Home Health, Hospice and Private Duty and Dr. Larry Skendzel of Lake Superior Hospice say it’s an opportunity for anyone who’s ever had anyone in their family receive end-of-life care to get together and share stories about how important hospice care is in times of severe illness.

Some 60 different faith communities participated in today’s ceremony.

The hospice community will be holding different events through out November to celebrate National Hospice Month.
