Beer and Booze 101 at NMU

Alcohol use and abuse was the focus of the Health Promotion Office at Northern Michigan University today.

An educational alcohol workshop, ‘Beer and Booze 101’, let students ask questions about the risks and myths of alcohol.

It was also a chance for them to get information about the perception of alcohol use on NMU’s campus.

NMU health promotion specialist Lenny Shible says the idea is to mostly reinforce what students already know but, in some cases, to challenge what they know.

He says while some students certainly drink, he says he commonly hears from students a general opinion that everybody drinks.

NMU’s Student Leader Fellowship Program helped to sponsor the educational talk.

Students were also quizzed on their knowledge of alcohol and were given informational cards about blood alcohol content.
