ISHPEMING TOWNSHIP — The Cinderella story of the boys basketball postseason received a nice surprise prior to leaving for their game tonight.
Students and staff at Westwood High School lined the hallways and greeted the players and coaching staff before they boarded the bus to Petoskey. The Patriots are enjoying their longest postseason in thirteen years.
NICE Superintendent Bryan DeAugustine says the send-off was a complete surprise for the entire school.
“We called the boys basketball team down to the superintendent’s office and I gave them a little good luck message and them how proud we are of them,” said DeAugustine. “Then the student body lined the halls and gave them a nice send off.”
“It’s really great to have this kind of success in athletics,” added DeAugustine. “We’ve always been really strong in fine arts and academics. To see a resurgence in our athletic programs, we’re just really proud that our kids can represent us so well.”
Sam Ali will let you know how the Patriots faired against McBain in the Class ‘C’ State Quarterfinals later tonight in sports.
