Baraga County’s new 2011-2012 budget was described as “operable“ by commissioners as they approved it earlier this week.

The $3.3 million dollar budget is smaller than last year’s, as the county anticipates lower revenues.

Commission Chair Mike Koskinen saluted county department heads, who all cut 10 percent from their budgets to make it work. Koskinen also credited a health insurance plan the county switched to recently for saving $195,000 dollars over two years… with coverage similar to that provided by the former plan.

The new budget was approved by unanimous vote.
