Baraga Co. office location discussed

Might the former L’Anse Pharmacy building in downtown L’Anse become home to some Baraga County offices?
 
The Baraga County Board will hold a public hearing this afternoon to discuss the possibility.
 
The proposal would relocate the offices of the County Clerk, Treasurer, Equalization Department, and Veterans Affairs… along with the MSU Extension office.
 
The basement of the building would be used to store paper records.
 
County offices are currently located in the 129-year-old Courthouse and the adjacent 100-year-old annex.. which are badly overcrowded.
 
Some records are being stored in a rented off-site facility.
 
Two recent millage requests that would have enabled the county to purchase and renovate the former Baraga County Memorial Hospital building were voted down by wide margins.
 
This afternoon’s hearing begins at 4:00 at the Courthouse.
