Ballots Empty in Calumet Election

Calumet is in a unique position tonight.

It’s about to have its election day tomorrow without having any names on the ballot.

The 3 village trustees whose terms are up all decided they didn’t want to run again.

No one filed papers in time to either make it onto the ballot or get approved as a write-in candidate.

No one’s running for the village clerk job, either.

But state law says the polls still have to be open from 7am to 8pm tomorrow anyway.

This isn’t a first for Calumet, either.

When the situation has come up in the past, the remaining council members appointed people to fill the open seats.
