UPDATE: Ice fisherman found dead in Escanaba

UPDATE 1:00 PM Friday, January 16, 2015 (EST) — Delta County Sheriff’s deputies say that fishermen on Little Bay de Noc just south of Escanaba found an empty collapsed ice shack around 8:45 a.m. Upon investigation, the fishermen found a four-wheeler that had broken through the ice.

Police responded and found David Breault, 66, of Escanaba under the water by the four-wheeler. Breault was taken to OSF St. Francis Hospital and pronounced dead.

Responding personnel say it looks like a pressure crack opened up causing thin and unsafe ice conditions.

Along with the Sheriff’s Department and their dive team, Escanaba Public Safety and Gladstone Public Safety and their hovercraft assisted at the scene.
