Attempted suicide in Houghton County Jail
Quick acting correctional staff and inmates prevented a suicide attempt at the Houghton County Jail.
The Houghton County Sheriff’s Department says that just before 5 p.m. on Friday an inmate attempted to hang himself.
According to police, inmates and correctional staff were able to get the inmate down.
The inmate was taken to Portage Health Hospital where he was evaluated and sent to the Marquette General Hospital Psychological Unit.
Mercy Ambulance assisted at the scene. The inmate’s name is not being released at this time, the incident is still under investigation.
