Aspirus Keweenaw named a Top 100 Critical Access Hospital

A Copper Country hospital has been recognized as one of the best in the entire country.

Aspirus Keweenaw has been named one of America’s Top 100 Critical Access Hospitals by the iVantage Strength Index, which grades hospitals in rural areas that have 25 or less in-patient beds.  More than 1,300 hospitals are graded on metrics such as quality and affordability.

Chief Nursing Officer Grace Tousignant said there are many other factors that the hospital looks at for their facility.

“One of the pillars that we do look at is how the patients feel about the care that they receive while they’re at Aspirus hospitals and our scores are higher than the state or national average at this point,” she said.

But, just because they received high marks does not mean the hospital won’t try to provide more for their patients.

“It’s not good enough to be just good. You have to be great. So we are always striving to be great in everything that we do,” said Tousignant.

Aspirus Keweenaw, along with Aspirus Grand View, are the only two Upper Peninsula hospitals recognized on the top 100 list.
