Arson Suspected in Ishpeming Fire

Police believe the fire that destroyed an abandoned house in Ishpeming 2 days ago was intentionally set.

That blaze at the corner of Division and Lake Streets was called in at about 3:30 Monday morning.

The fire also did some damage to the building next door.

The State Police called in a fire marshal, who investigated the scene yesterday.

Ishpeming Police Det. Sgt. Dan Willey says because the home didn’t have any electricity or heat, there was no reason for any fire to have started inside it.

One firefighter was briefly trapped inside the house as it burned.

He was treated at Bell Hospital and released.

There’s no word yet on whether any accelerant, like gasoline, was used in the fire.

There’s a $5,000 reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction.
