Arrest in Manistique Forgery Case

An Alger County man is in jail tonight following an arrest for embezzlement from the Manistique Moose Lodge.
56–year–old Ray Hayford of Wetmore has been charged with four counts of forgery.
Each count carries a maximum penalty of up to 14 years in prison.
Hayford is also charged with embezzlement of more than $1,000 but less than $20,000.
He could receive up to 10 years in prison on that charge if convicted.
Hayford was arraigned today in 93rd District Court and is currently being held in the Schoolcraft County Jail.
The arrest was made following a joint investigation by the Michigan State Police Manistique Detachment and the Schoolcraft County Sheriff’s Department.
