Arrest warrants issued in Alger County

GRAND MARAIS — The Alger County Sheriff’s Office has issued a pair of arrest warrants for two people that used to live in the Grand Marais area.

Police are looking for a 36-year-old man and a 34-year-old man. Their names are not being released until they’re arrested and arraigned in court.

Alger County Sheriff Robert Hughes tells ABC 10 that the warrants for the two men are for possession of marijuana and for failure to register firearms. Police executed a search warrant of the Sportsman’s Restaurant and the apartment directly above the restaurant on March 20. They were looking for unregistered firearms, illegal drugs, and evidence of other unlawful activities.

“We are still processing evidence and electronic data recovered in the service of the search warrant as well as waiting results from evidence at the Crime Lab before moving forward with additional charges,” said Hughes.

Additional warrants are pending from another search warrant that was executed at a residence on Webb Road.

The Alger County Sheriff’s Department was assisted at the scene by the Michigan Department of Natural Resources, The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms, A canine unit for the US Forest Service, Liquor Control Commission, and the Michigan Department of Corrections.
