Arrest made in murder investigation

IRON COUNTY — Police have made an arrest in a murder that occurred in Iron County last month.

ABC 10 has learned from a source that 65-year-old Alfred Saario of Alpha has been arrested for the murder of 29-year-old Jamie Lee James, also of Alpha.

The Iron County Sheriff’s Office will not confirm Saario as their suspect until after he’s arraigned in Iron County District Court.

Back on June 23rd, police responded to a murder/suicide situation in Alpha. When officers arrived, they found James deceased.

A male subject, believed to be Saario, was found inside the house was taken to Iron River Aspirus Hospital and was later airlifted to Madison, Wisconsin for medical treatment.

On Friday, authorities arrested Saario at UW Madison Hospital for the murder of James. He’s currently lodged at the Dane County Jail and is awaiting extradition back to Iron County.
