Amy Roberts update & Baraga County Lake Trout Festival

The sun shone on downtown L’Anse on Saturday, as thousands of people turned out for the annual Baraga County Lake Trout Festival.

111 boats were registered for the Keweenaw Bay Classic Fishing Tournament… that’s the most ever.

Registrations for the Pequaming Run and the new Tour de L’Anse Bike Race also exceeded their goals, and organizers called the entire Festival a big success.

Jailyn Shelifoe was named Little Miss Superior for 2012.

The highlight of the day was an appearance by distance runner Amy Roberts.

Roberts won the Pequaming Run half-marathon last year… but was badly hurt when she was hit by a car on December 15th.

Roberts’ husband and friends took turns pushing her in a wheelchair on the course.

About 150 feet from the finish line, they stopped… Amy got up… and walked across… using the wheelchair for support.

Hundreds of people at the festival stopped what they were doing to cheer her in.
