Alleged bow and arrow shooter charged with attempted murder

HOUGHTON — It is an unusual case — a Hancock man is accused of shooting someone with a bow and arrow.

58-year-old James Delmart Walters, Junior, was charged with attempted murder in 97th District Court. He faces up to life in prison if convicted. Police say Walters shot a 56-year-old man in the shoulder following an argument on Saturday at a residence on Summit Street in Hancock.

On bond, the prosecutor said Walters had previously served prison time for assault with a dangerous weapon and she believed him to be a danger to the community. Bond was set at $500,000 cash and he is currently lodged in the Houghton County Jail.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for March 2nd.
