Acting like a kid focus of church’s activity nights

Summertime brings plenty of opportunities for youths to act like kids.

One church in Marquette is trying to bring youths together and do just that.  Messiah Lutheran Church holds Youth Activity Nights for the past fifteen years on Tuesdays and Thursdays throughout the summer.

Activities include playing board games, watching movies, and participating in classic kid games, like tag and water balloon fights.

“It’s a way to get involved in the community and the church, and to just have a good time,” Michael Davis said, who coordinates the activity nights.  “We target kids who sometimes need a place to go and who just want to have fun.”

Davis added the activity nights gives kids a chance to socialize and interact with each other.

“We want to teach kids the skills they need to be active members of the community.  This is a great way to do it, kids get to get out and have fun, and do things kids have always done, but maybe sometimes need a little help remembering.  We try to keep some of that tradition alive.”

Youth Activity Nights are from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays.  Drinks and snacks are provided, and kids do not have to be a member of the church to attend.  Attending the activity nights is free of charge.
