Accident closes US-41
Part of US-41 in Negaunee Township was shut down this morning following an accident.
Michigan State Police from the Negaunee Post say it happened shortly before 7 a.m. at the Airport Drive intersection.
33-year-old David Rushford of Ishpeming was turning left from Airport Drive, onto the eastbound side of the highway, in a semi. Police say he pulled into the path of a pickup truck.
57–year–old Edward Havel of Big Bay was unable to avoid the semi’s trailer. He was taken to Marquette General Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Rushford was cited for Failure to Yield the Right–of way. Police say Freezing rain and icy conditions were factors in the wreck.
The Marquette County Rescue Squad, Negaunee Township Fire Department, Bell EMS, Marquette County Sheriff’s Department, and the Michigan State Police Motor Carrier Division all assisted at the scene.
