Access to Seventh Street from US-41 restored

Two and a half weeks after a massive sinkhole stopped traffic on Marquette’s east side, drivers are once again able to access Seventh Street from US-41.

The hole appeared in the early hours of April 11th between Fisher Street and US-41 as a result of a water main break. The Department of Public Works said at the time that the increase in water flow washed much of the material away from beneath the road’s surface, causing it to collapse. Although the route is now open and safe for travel, city officials urge drivers to be cautious, as the road surface has not yet been completely repaved.
