ISHPEMING – Judging by the trees outside, fall is upon us here in the Upper Peninsula. Every Saturday from now until Thanksgiving will be filled with plenty of high school and college sports. In college football, Michigan Tech rallied for a 26-20 win over Saginaw Valley State. Huskies fullback Zack Skeels scored the game winning touchdown with 3:29 left in the game. In other college football action, Northern Michigan lost by a field goal at Hillsdale, 13-10. NMU is now 1-2 (0-2 GLIAC) to begin the season. Michigan State took care of Eastern Michigan in East Lansing, winning the game 73-14.

The NMU and MTU volleyball teams spent Friday and Saturday in Ohio. The Wildcats defeated Ashland, 3-1 on Saturday, while the Huskies also won in four sets against Lake Erie. Michigan Tech travels to Northern Michigan this Tuesday. The match at Vandament Arena is set to begin at 6 p.m.

The Tigers won again at Kansas City today, 3-2 was the final. The win puts Detroit 2.5 games ahead of the Royals for first place in the A.L. Central Division standings.
