A night at the museum

HOUGHTON — A museum in Houghton is putting on an event this weekend as their membership drive continues.

The Carnegie Museum in downtown Houghton is hosting their 5th Annual “A Night At The Museum” this Saturday. The event is part of their yearly membership drive and will have an Oktoberfest theme.

Carnegie Museum Director Elise Nelson said, “It’s really just sort of a big party, a kickoff for the beginning of our membership year and we encourage everyone to come and become a member and enjoy the festivities. We’ll have brats and pretzels and beer, of course—locally brewed beer, mead and wine (not local).”

Music will be provided by Keweenaw Brewgrass. The museum hosts changing exhibits in the former public library building which dates back to the early 1900’s. Now the museum serves as a centerpiece in the community.

Nelson said, “What we were looking for was a venue off of Tech campus that’s more integrated into the community so that we can bring people together in our diverse community of academics and non–academics and community minded people and have them have a place to come together to learn about things and to show off what they’ve learned.”

Different membership levels are available. Tickets and memberships can be bought at the door on Saturday.
