9/11 Day of Service and Remembrance planned

Military veterans and their families are invited to a veterans appreciation event in recognition of the 9/11 Day of Service and Remembrance.

The event, sponsored by the Volunteer Coordinators of Marquette County, will be held the day before 9/11, on Tuesday, September 10 from 1:30-2:30 p.m. in the recreation room at the D.J. Jacobetti Home for Veterans in Marquette.

The event will include a short program to honor the service of veterans as well as emergency personnel and volunteers who served in the aftermath of the attacks of September 11, 2001. The event will include refreshments, music by members of the Marquette Senior High School Orchestra and the distribution of gift bags to veterans by students of Marquette Alternative High School. The bags were crafted by members of the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program of Marquette County.

September 11 was proclaimed a National Day of Service and Remembrance in 2009 with the goal to inspire people to carry forward the remarkable spirit of unity, understanding, and service that brought America and the world together in the immediate aftermath of the 9/11 attacks.
