Senator embarks on #RideMI Tour

OSCODA COUNTY — United States Senator Gary Peters is in the midst of a tour across many different parts of Michigan. Peters is traveling the Great Lakes State not by car, bus, plane or even boat.

The Senator is making his way down the road on just two wheels.

Peters is riding a motorcycle on his #RideMI Motorcycle Tour. The five–day stint across the state began in Northern Michigan at the Alcona Health Centers’ Oscoda Clinic.

Peters watched a demonstration of the clinic’s new psychiatric telehealth services. The technology at the clinic allows mental health patients to speak with healthcare professionals and receive care without having to visit a doctor’s office.

“It will give an opportunity for patients to have first–class medical care without driving hours and hours to find a specialist,” said Peters. “I’m introducing legislation to make it even more expensive, to allow telehealth to be in a person’s home, particularly for routine types of medical care. Why drive to a clinic hours away if you can have that routine care done in your home.”

The #RideMI Tour continues to Big Rapids and Newaygo on Wednesday.
