IRON COUNTY — An electrical problem is believed to be the source of a logging truck fire that happened in Iron County Monday afternoon.

Deputies from the Iron County Sheriff’s Office say they were dispatched to County Road 643 around 2:00 p.m. on the report of a logging truck that was on fire. The driver had parked the fully-loaded truck on the north side of the Paint River Bridge about an hour and a half earlier after experiencing mechanical problems. He left to retrieve some tools, but upon his return, he found that the truck was fully engulfed in flames.

A passerby had called 911 just prior to the driver’s return. The Hematite Township Fire Department extinguished the fire. No one was injured in the incident.

The Iron County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by Aspirus EMS, the Hematite Township Fire Department, Michigan State Police, and Iron County Central Dispatch.
