Michigan Senator supports STORM Act

Washington D.C. — U.S. Senator Gary Peters is cosponsoring a new piece of legislation that will improve communication between the U.S. and its allies in fighting terrorism.

The Stop Terrorist Operational Resources and Money, or STORM, Act gives the President the ability to coordinate with countries on their counter-terrorism financing efforts.

Under the legislation, a country with inadequate preventative measures in regards to terrorism financing will be deemed a “Jurisdiction of Terrorism Financing Concern.”

The President can then enter an agreement with said country to assist with its policy in counter-terrorism finances.

The legislation followed the release of a report from the U.S. State Department that many countries are not properly implementing counter-terrorism finance restrictions.
