ISHPEMING — It was a special occasion at the Ishpeming VFW–post.

The state commander of Michigan’s VFW, Jerry Gorski, is in the U.P. And yesterday, he made a stop in Ishpeming; where some war veterans gathered in preparation for his arrival. When he made his way through the VFW-doors at approximately 6 p.m., he came bearing gifts; as most in attendance were handed one of his state pins.

After the initial meet and greet, he stopped for a quick chat with ABC 10 to explain the reason behind his visit to the Upper Peninsula; which was to tour the Jacobetti Home for Veterans.

“I wanted to inspect the building and make sure all our veterans are being treated as they should,” he remarked, “It was a terrific tour and I had a lot of members from our 14th and 15th district with me, as well.”

But that wasn’t his last order of business.

He continued, “And the next thing is a fundraiser for the Jacobetti home at Sawyer Air Force Base – the golf course there – and that was today.”

The state commander’s visit runs through tomorrow.
