Domestic violence incident lands man behind bars
HOUGHTON — One man is facing charges after an alleged domestic violence incident in Houghton.
Police say a 37-year-old man was arrested at the Auto Zone store on US-41 in Houghton on Tuesday. Just after 8:00 a.m., a woman sought protection inside the store and Auto Zone staff secured the store and protected the woman until police arrived.
She was later taken to U.P. Health System – Portage for treatment. The man was charged with one count of domestic violence – aggravated assault, which is a one-year misdemeanor, and one count of assault of assault and battery, which is a 93-day misdemeanor.
The suspect’s name won’t be released until he’s arraigned in court.
