CHIPPEWA COUNTY — Officials in Chippewa County are reporting another set of snowmobile accidents from over the weekend, making it consecutive weekends that a snowmobile crash has resulted in a death.
On Saturday afternoon, 23–year–old Anita Naugle of Warren, Michigan was driving a snowmobile on Trail 889 in Bay Mills Township when it left the trail and hit a tree. Naugle died as a result of her injuries.
Her female passenger was ejected from the snowmobile and received serious injuries. She was taken to War Memorial Hospital for treatment.
Another accident happened Friday in Whitefish Township near Trail No. 8. Police say the snowmobile left the trail and hit a tree.
The driver was left with serious injuries and was taken to War Memorial Hospital for Treatment. Speed was a factor in both accidents.
The Chippewa County Sheriff’s Department has handled five bad snowmobile accidents in the last two weeks. They want to remind snowmobilers to take the trails slow and enjoy the scenery, rather than seeing how fast they ride on them.
