#7 Ranked MTU Lady Huskies upset by GVSU

ALLENDALE, Mich. – Grand Valley out-scored the No. 7 Michigan Tech women’s basketball team 38-18 in the paint to defeat the Huskies 66-40 Monday (Dec. 19).

The Huskies fall to 7-3 overall and 3-2 in the league after suffering its second straight loss. The last time Tech lost back-to-back games was Feb. 7 and 12, 2009.

Tech’s shooting continued to struggle for the second straight game finishing just 16-of-58 (27.6%) from the field and 3-of-23 from 3-point.

The Lakers led 36-19 at the break and out-scored the Huskies 30-21 over the final 20 minutes.

The Lakers were 16-of-17 from the free throw line, while the Huskies were 5-of-6.

Junior Sam Hoyt finished with a team-high nine points. Fellow junior Emma Veach, a transfer from Grand Valley, added seven points and a game-high 11 rebounds.

Briauna Taylor led the Lakers with a game-high 23 points. Alex Stelfox and Brittany Taylor each added 12 points.

Michigan Tech will play its final non-conference game of the season against Lewis at Portland (Mich.) High School on Dec. 30th.
