MARQUETTE — The Marquette Arts and Culture Center is asking for the publics help in nominating deserving members of the community for the 2016 Annual Arts Awards.
The awards recognize citizens who have demonstrated artistic excellence or who have made significant contributions to the arts in the community.
Marquette Arts and Culture Center Manager, Tiina Harris said,” There are ten different award categories and they span all the artistic disciplines from performing, visual, and literary arts. But also, we present awards to an individual who has done a lot to advocate to for the arts or has been really wonderful volunteer, or maybe served on a board for a non–profit that does so much with the arts.”
Nomination forms and criteria can be picked–up at the City of Marquette Arts and Culture Center. The award recipients will be honored at a ceremony in May.
“Artists make such a difference in our community, whether you are seeing a band that you love or a piece of art you purchased at a local art fair, or your son or daughter has this amazing teacher that has taught them to play an instrument or taught them the visual arts. People always think someone else is going to nominate them, but you cant wait for that someone else to nominate them you have to nominate them and show them that they’re important.”
Nominations are being accepted until Monday, March Seventh. The MACC is located in the lower level of the Peter White Public Library.
