Northern Michigan announces 2018-19 hockey schedule

MARQUETTE — Northern Michigan University Men’s Ice Hockey announced their 2018-19 schedule highlighted by 28 Western Collegiate Hockey Association contests and 16 games in the Berry Events Center.

The season will begin with a non-conference series on the road at Michigan State University October 12-13. The following weekend, NMU will compete at St. Cloud State University for another non-conference series. The Huskies are coming off of a 25-9-6 season and were the top seed in the 2018 NCAA Tournament.

NMU will host a final non-conference series November 9-10, welcoming Cornell University to the Berry. The Big Red were also a number-one seed in the NCAA Tournament and finished the season 25-6-2.

WCHA action will begin October 26-27 when the Wildcats host Bemidji State University. NMU will also host the University of Alaska-Anchorage November 16-17, Michigan Technological University on December 7, and Ferris State University December 14-15. After the new year, The Wildcats will host seven conference contests including Minnesota State University January 25-26, Bowling Green State University February 1-2, Lake Superior State University February 22-23, and Michigan Tech on March 2.

The Wildcats will travel for WCHA competition November 2-3 versus Bowling Green, November 23-24 versus Lake Superior State, and December 8 at Michigan Tech. After the new year, NMU will travel to the University of Alaska-Fairbanks January 4-5, Alaska-Anchorage January 11-12, the University of Alabama-Huntsville February 8-9, Bemidji State February 15-16, and Michigan Tech March 1.

NMU ended the 2017-18 season with a 25-15-3 overall record that included an appearance in the WCHA Championship Game in the Berry Events Center. It was the Wildcats’ best record since the 2001-02 campaign, while next year’s team will return five all-conference honorees, the league goaltender of the year, and an All-American.
