MARQUETTE – A confirmed hit and run accident took place Friday evening, leaving one vehicle with rear end damage.

A deputy from the Marquette County Sheriff’s Office said a white sedan was heading west on US-41 when it was struck by a mini-van around 6:45 p.m. in front of the Comfort Suites hotel. The mini-van fled the scene after the accident.

The deputy confirmed that police were able to catch the vehicle in Chocolay Township. The driver is suspected of driving under the influence of alcohol.

A child that was a passenger in the sedan suffered a minor head injury. The case will be handled by the Michigan State Police. We will release more information as it becomes available.
