Houghton County Sheriff appoints new Undersheriff

HOUGHTON — Houghton County Sheriff Brian McLean announced Thursday that Captain Kevin Coppo has been promoted to Undersheriff.

Captain Coppo has served with the Houghton County Sheriff’s Office for over 14 years, 10 as a field service deputy/patrol, then took a leave of absence for 18 months to serve as an international peace keeper in Iraq. After returning home and back to the Sheriff’s Office he began his service as Captain/Jail Administrator.

“Now Undersheriff Coppo has served Houghton County well in the past and I’m confident he will continue to do so in the future”, says Sheriff McLean. “He is organized, forward thinking, dedicated and fiscally responsible – all excellent traits as he will run one of the largest departments in the western UP for its day to day functions.”

He will begin his duties as Undersheriff immediately.
