15 Arrests in Massive Meth Lab Bust

More than a dozen people were arrested overnight in the Marquette area on drug charges.

Authorities located and dismantled three meth labs and found components that are used in the manufacture of meth.

In all, 15 people were taken into custody.

Indictments for a total of 17 suspects were obtained.

The cases have been sent to the Marquette U.S. Attorney’s Office for review.

About 40 officers from the Upper Peninsula Substance Enforcement Team worked with local, state and federal agencies into the early morning hours.

This coordinated effort involved the DEA, the DEA Meth Unit, the ATF, the Michigan State Police Meth Team, the 8th District Hometown Security team, as well as officers from the City of Marquette, Chocolay and Skandia Township Fire Departments and the Marquette County Sheriff’s Department.

No names are being released at this time.

Additional charges are being sought in the case.

Meth labs are a growing problem in the U.P.

Earlier this month, a Marquette man was found passed out behind the wheel of his car at a local gas station with an operational meth lab in the vehicle.

And last Wednesday, police found a meth lab at the scene of a fatal shooting in Marquette.
